Cole Street

Melissa Fleming of Metroworks Architects was given a brief from the owners of 35 Cole Street to design a family home with a modern take on the popular Georgian manor style. Her solution involved keeping classic features such as tall framing columns and rectangular windows and working in a garage at the front and flat roof. The final result, built by award-winning firm Neumode Design and Construction, is handsome on the outside, sleek and stylish inside, and packed with state of the art inclusions.

High window panels and three retro inspired light fittings above the entrance lend light and drama to the wide foyer and hallway. To the left of the hall is the main bedroom. The ensuite is reached via a dressing space with concealed wardrobes to one side, a neat alternative to the walk in wardrobe. The large ensuite is five star, with a double shower behind twin vanities, separate toilet and spa bath.

To the right of the hall with two wide entrances is the combined dining and living room with feature wall at one end and full length windows extending down the eastern side.

Across the hall is a nook featuring an original Pro Hart painting. From here carpeted stairs with footlights lead up to four bedrooms, two with ensuites, leading off a centralised children's retreat. At the rear is a games room with built in corner bar, featuring a 1920's inspired pool table. Bi-fold doors open to a terrace.

Downstairs, at the end of the hall, is an open plan kitchen, meals and living area. The cantilevered staircase leading from this area to the games room above is, perhaps, the showpiece of the house. Original aboriginal artwork features on the wall to the side of the staircase and in the informal living area. The kitchen features Miele appliances, integrated refrigerator and dishwasher with a concealed under bench freezer. Behind the kitchen is a butler's pantry to one side and laundry to the other. Bi-fold doors give way to a covered outdoor entertainment area perfect for alfresco dining. The focus of the landscaped backyard is a tiled pool.

Black butt timber floors stained sienna with a high gloss finish, white walls and a two pack finish to all wardrobes and cupboards have been used to achieve a sleek interior finish. A bushland grey render completes the exterior.
