Art Deco Dream - Dean Ave. Hawthorn

The owners said of this house, "It's modern with a traditional touch" 'From the road the house looks like a typical, traditional 1930s home, so when visitors first step into the wide hallway they're quite amazed to see a spacious modern interior. One of the most striking features of this new look is the dark chocolate flooring which runs throughout the house , adding a sense of depth.'

The front living room is abundant with original features as seen in the truly art deco stained glass windows and beautiful fireplace with surrounding glassed door cabinetry. All the other rooms in this beautiful home show the owners style , "classic contemporary with colorful touches", as described by the interior designer , Melissa Ries. The main bedroom grabs the eye with its mix of floral and geometric touches and the walk in wardrobe and ensuite marries style with easy living.

A warm family friendly open plan living area is practical while still looking inviting. There's a large island bench for preparing meals , an informal dining and entertaining area , plus an open fire place to create a cosy feel in winter.

It breathes plenty of life through the clever mix of white walls , splashes of warm pinks and plum in coloured cushions and a bold rich pink rug . The outdoor space begins with a courtyard feel and leads to a grassed area big enough to throw the cricket ball around . An original majestic plane tree holds court over the backyard giving a feeling of timelessness.

Upstairs encompasses a separate kids zone which includes three spacious bedrooms , a refreshing unisex bathroom in cool green and white and an airy play room to hide all the toys .

Truly an 'art deco' dream.
