Riversdale Road

Riversdale Road is unique, not only in terms of its design, but for its position nestled on the edge of picturesque Fairview Park where the banks of the Yarra River flatten out. Situated below the level of Riversdale Road, and with its uninterrupted views across the park and to the river, this five bedroom home is a retreat away from the busy suburban traffic only metres away.

The original house was architect designed and built in the 1980's, on land once part of what is now 6 Riversdale Road. Some twenty years later, after the current owners acquired the property, Susan Leeton Architects was engaged to design a major renovation of the house. The result is a stunning contemporary home over three levels taking full advantage of the views from its prime position, whilst still retaining some of the features of the original design.

Entry to the house is gained across a walkway direct to the top level. Large glass windows give views from the outside into the open foyer space and through to the river and parkland beyond. A lounge and library on the top floor open up to the resort style deck with barbeque area and raised pool to take full advantage of the spectacular views.

Three bedrooms including the main bedroom are on the second level with family and living areas including kitchen and dining. There is plenty of natural light to all areas of the second level and a large light well opens the area to the skies above. When swiveled closed, the tall wide door to the main bedroom is disguised as wall space, making the studio styled main bedroom a retreat in itself. Recessed blinds and fold out desks built into the wall of the children's bedrooms add to the uncluttered design of the rooms. The incorporation of a C- Bus system into the renovated home allows for central control of music, lights, blinds, television and other electrical appliances.

The long atrium kitchen enjoys an eastern aspect and is close by but out of sight of the dining area. Parents of young children will appreciate the large window in the kitchen through to the family bathroom, one of the features retained from the original house. A further two bedrooms, study and rumpus opening on to the yard are on the ground floor.

PLEASE NOTE: THE DRIVEWAY TO 6A RIVERSDALE ROAD IS QUITE STEEP. PATRONS SHOULD WEAR APPROPRIATE FOOTWEAR (WALKING SHOES WITH GRIP; NO HEELS) AND TAKE CARE.
