Hawksburn Multi-Storey Modern

Found just around the corner from the vibrant Hawksburn Village, the Hawksburn house has been expertly redesigned from a 1930s duplex into a stylish, fun and functional residence for empty nesters.

Mardi, from Doherty Designs, worked with Ari from Ari Alexander Design Group to reimagine the interiors and open previously small rooms to create generosity in space and design. The internal layout which previously resembled a rabbit warren of sorts, was overhauled to embrace a more connected, open and contemporary design.

The first thing you see when entering Hawksburn House is an unmissable wash of pink mirrored acrylic, used to clad the door to the owner’s Main Bedroom and Ensuite. It is an unexpected and consciously bold statement that sets the tone for the rest of the interiors. The owners wanted to bring a sense of surprise and joy when first entering the home and create a deliberate contrast to the discrete and paired back exterior. They were also interested in prioritising communal spaces that encouraged interaction and allowed them to easily entertain guests, something they love to do!

Our tour will show you the harmonious yet playful blend of spaces, material choice and use of light and capitalisation of city views.

Positioned in the heart of Hawksburn with everything you could desire on your doorstep, this glamorous modern home with signature pink acrylic door and uniquely decorated elevator is a fun and exciting visual treat.

What we love

  • The pink acrylic door to the Main Bedroom and Ensuite

  • The collage of old family photos that adorn the lift well

  • The fun sense of colour the owners have injected using their own items collected over time and through travels

  • Curved lines

  • Mirrored metallic finishes to the upper cabinets in the kitchen and in the walkway to the living area (also a magnet for the grandkids handprints 😉)
