Hawthorn East restored Victorian

We are thrilled to show you through this immaculately restored and renovated Victorian in Hawthorn East. It is such a treat with every detail carefully considered.

c1895 ‘Olivia Villa’ double fronted Victorian was originally just four rooms - a kitchen, two bedrooms and a sitting room. The house underwent a renovation prior to 1940-50s which added a living space, bathroom and separate laundry.

During 2016/17 Janelle Hearn begun work on honouring the heritage of the double fronted Victorian - restoring and reinstating period features and blending a luxurious contemporary extension, right down to the front door’s original, restored knob. Janelle will tell you more about this incredible transformation when we chat with her at the property.

Three original fireplaces were restored in the front rooms using the original Victorian style and method and in the front sitting room we will show you a piece of the original wallpaper that was uncovered. This inspired the powder room’s amazing new, custom-made wallpaper (KerrieBrownDesigns).

The new renovation focussed on seamlessly blending the original four rooms with a large contemporary extension, highlighting the Victorian period features and ensuring there was a strong connection with the landscaped exterior from every angle of the home including the triple arched hallway.

The original kitchen was converted to the walk-in robe and ensuite and a further bedroom, powder room, study, laundry, kitchen, walk-in pantry and open plan living and dining was added.

Be sure to notice the brushed brass tapware and door handles throughout the house by Astra Walker and special touches with tiling and joinery. Casement windows in the study open out to the feature Japanese Maple tree and garden while the main bathroom looks out to a private garden through French doors. Artworks commissioned specifically for the home’s palette feature in the sitting room, hallway and dining room by Chloe Planinsek Art.
