Grand Italianate Mansion in Surrey Hills
Predating 1885, this beautifully restored & rejuvenated double-storey Italianate mansion has a rich history.
As you walk through the house and gardens, hints of its past have been subtly recorded through the art of the current owner’s son, James Mulcahy. Situated on a 1327sq m block and updated to include a private outdoor area and heated pool, the home boasts stained-glass windows, a 1000-bottle wine cellar, period open fireplaces and three staircases. Look out for the old servants passage!
Classical Italianate architecture displayed in the columns, bay windows, open fireplaces and return-verandah were lovingly brought back to life. Huge ornate ceilings, cornices and architraves and intricate details, such as corbels and the lacework in the front verandah, were thoroughly researched and restored as faithfully as possible.
Tucked away in a leafy Surrey Hills street, this home is a wonderful example of historical excellence combined with modern renovation for luxury family living. Modern art (many pieces by Anna Mulcahy), window placement and a large screening Ficus hedge give the house not only a quirky and emotional connection to its past, but also colour, life, light and privacy. Very little is to be desired in terms of comfortable modern living. Large rooms, ceiling heights and ample space with varying modes of traffic throughout the house give the house a great sense of movement and flow making this home a highlight of our 2023 event.
